Brass products in the coronet excavated from an M2-numbered Sui-Tang-dynasty tomb situated in Kun Lun Company in Xi'an, Shaanxi

Abstract Ancient Chinese brass smelting technology has promoted the invention of zinc smelting, thus becoming an important part metallurgical history. However, information concerning its origin and development is still controversial. In that regard, thorough analysis composition structure early crucial for studying various stages ancient This study aimed to investigate artifacts from Kunlun M2 tomb in Xi'an , Shaanxi dating back during Sui Tang Dynasty (581–712 AD). The metallographic characterization materials was performed using XRF, SEM–EDS analysis. According results, composed 83 wt% copper, 12 zinc, 3 tin. Furthermore, microstructure consisted α-isometric single crystals with some slip lines a few twinned grains. indicated obtained by melting appropriate mixture ores copper at temperature above 920 °C. support components were installed on coronet after integral hot forging partial cold shaping.
